Next, it’s time to compose your message. Keep it friendly and concise. Remember, you’re reaching out to someone who’s selling something, so a polite and respectful tone goes a long way. And don’t forget to mention the item you’re interested in and any questions you may have. The more specific you are, the better!
Once you’ve finished crafting your message, go ahead and hit that “Send” button. Woohoo, your message has been successfully sent! Now it’s just a matter of waiting for a response. Normally, sellers are pretty quick to reply, but they might not respond right away. So be patient, my friend.
While you’re waiting, keep an eye on your inbox. Kijiji will send you an email notification as soon as you receive a reply. So make sure to check your spam folder, just in case!

In late 2017, Kijiji introduced a great feature called “My Messages” that lets you communicate directly with other users. This means you don’t have to use other platforms anymore. If you’re new to Kijiji and don’t know how the messaging system works, don’t worry! I’m here to explain everything you need to know.
What is My Messages on Kijiji?
To use the Kijiji messaging system, you have to be a registered user. Once you create a profile, you can access your messages by clicking on the bubble icon on the Homepage. The messaging system is super handy because it shows you all your recent and ongoing conversations with buyers and sellers. You can read your messages, reply to other users, and even block them if needed.
How Does Messaging Work?
Messaging on Kijiji is really simple. When you open an ad on their site, you can reply using the Contact Poster form. Once you make that first contact, the conversation will be moved to the “My Messages” tab. There, you can see all your messages and you’ll get a notification on the bubble icon when you have unread messages. Here are the most important things to know about sending and receiving messages on Kijiji.
What You Need to Know
Every time you reply to a message on Kijiji using the Contact Poster form, you’ll also get an email notification. You can reply using “My Messages” on Kijiji or through email. Unfortunately, they still don’t have the option to turn off email notifications when someone messages you on Kijiji.
You can’t use My Messages for ads posted by professionals or those in the Jobs category. If you want to get in touch with them, you’ll have to contact them through email. Otherwise, you won’t be able to find your conversations in My Messages.
Your previous conversations will stay active for 60 days after you send the first message. After that, they’ll be automatically deleted from “My Messages”.
You have to be a registered member of Kijiji to use “My Messages”.

Sending Messages
- If you want to get in touch with a seller, just use the Contact Poster box located under the About the Poster section. It’s that simple! You’ll find it on the right side of the ads on Kijiji. To contact the seller, all you need to do is enter your email address and the message you want to send.
- If you want a copy of the message you sent, you can select the option “Send me a copy of email.” Just remember, you need to be signed in to use this feature.
- Once you’re ready, click on “Send Email” and your message will be sent. The recipient will be able to reply directly to you.
To see all the messages you’ve recently sent, just go to the “My Messages” tab by clicking on the bubble icon. When you’re logged in, you’ll see your email in Contact Posters on every ad. It’s a handy feature designed to make messaging faster and easier. Only you can see it, so no need to worry about privacy.
Receiving Replies
When someone replies to your ad for the first time, you’ll get a notification in My Messages and an email. You can choose to reply to them using either Kijiji or your email.
If you want to delete a conversation, just go to “My Messages” and check the little box to the left. Select the conversations you no longer need, then click “Delete.” The conversations will disappear from “My Messages”, but don’t worry, you can still find them in your emails and continue the conversation there. If you continue the conversation via email, the messages will reappear on Kijiji too.
If you can see replies in “My Messages” but you’re not receiving email notifications, make sure to add post@kijiji.ca, donot-reply@kijiji.ca, and @rts.kijiji.ca to your email safe list. Otherwise, the email notifications might end up in your spam or junk folders.
