Adding Multiple Variants on Shopify Made Easy
Hey there! Today, I want to show you how to effortlessly add multiple variants to your Shopify store. It may sound complicated, but don’t worry, I’ll break it down step by step so you won’t feel overwhelmed.
First things first, let’s talk about what a variant is. Essentially, a variant is a different version of a product. For example, if you sell t-shirts, you may have different sizes (small, medium, large) or colors (red, blue, green) available for your customers to choose from. Each of these different attributes is a variant of the main product.
So, how can you add these variants to your Shopify store? Well, lucky for you, Shopify has a user-friendly interface that makes it a breeze.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Log in to your Shopify admin panel. If you don’t have an account yet, go ahead and create one. It’s free!
2. Once you’re in your admin panel, click on the “Products” tab on the left-hand side of the page.
3. Now, find the product you want to add variants to and click on it to open the product details page.
4. On the product details page, scroll down until you see the “Variants” section. This is where the magic happens!
5. Click on the “Add variant” button to start adding your variants.
6. You’ll see that you can add a title for your variant. This could be something like “Size” or “Color.”
7. Next, you’ll want to add the different options for your variants. For example, if you’re adding size variants, you can add options like “Small,” “Medium,” and “Large.”
8. If you have more than one variant option, like size and color, you can click on the “Add another option” link to add another set of options.
9. Once you’ve added all your variant options, you can enter the SKU (stock keeping unit) and the price for each variant if you’d like. This is optional, but it can be helpful for tracking inventory and pricing.
10. Finally, click on the “Save” button, and voila! You’ve successfully added multiple variants to your Shopify store.
Now, when your customers visit your store, they’ll be able to choose from all the different options you’ve added. It’s a great way to offer variety and cater to different preferences.
I hope this guide has been helpful and that you’re feeling confident about adding multiple variants on Shopify. Remember, practice makes perfect, so don’t be afraid to experiment and try out different combinations of variants for your products. Happy selling!
If you’re looking to run an online store, Shopify is a great choice. It offers a wide range of tools and features that can help you create a store that attracts customers.
When adding products to your store, you may come across some that have different variations, such as color, size, or other features. But do you really need to create separate products for each variation? Luckily, Shopify has a solution called multiple variants. Let me show you how to use it.
Adding Product Variants
Normally, when you describe a product, you would include details like its size, material, color, and other features. But what if there are small differences between them, even though they’re essentially the same product? In that case, instead of creating new products, you can simply add multiple variants to the existing ones.
It’s important to note that each product in Shopify can have up to three options, such as size, color, weight, material, and more. However, there is a limit of 100 variants per product. These are the limits set by Shopify, but if you need more, you can explore third-party apps available in the Shopify app store.
1. How to Add a Product and Its Variants at the Same Time
So, you want to add products to your website from your computer? No problem! I’ve got you covered. Just follow these simple steps:
- First, open the admin panel on Shopify and click on “Products”.
- Then, click on “Add products” and choose “Add variant” from the Variants section.
- Make sure to check the box that says your product has multiple variants.
- Next, choose the desired option for the variant, such as Color, from the Option name.
- Type in different option values, separated by a comma, in the Option values section. For example: white, blue, black, red, pink. These values will appear as tags next to the option name.
- If necessary, you can add more options. Just remember that the maximum number of options is three, as mentioned above. Each variant can also have its own product image.
- To save the variants, simply click on “Save”.
If you’re creating products from a mobile device, follow these steps:
- After opening the Shopify app and going to the Products page, select “Add product”.
- From there, choose “Add variants”.
- Select “Add option” and on the new screen, give a name to the option.
- Then, choose one of the given options like Color, Finish, Material, or other.
- Add an option value and return to the previous screen. Repeat this for each value.
- Click on “Save” and then on the product name if you’re done adding the options. If you need to add more, select “Add option” and follow the steps above.
2. Adding Variants to an Existing Product
You have two options here. You can either duplicate the product, or you can add variants to an existing product.
If you choose the first option, here’s how to do it:
- When I enter my admin dashboard, I click on “Products”.
- From there, I select “All products” and find the product I want to add a variant for.
- I find the Variants section and the desired variant.
- Then, I choose “Edit”.
- After that, I select “Duplicate”.
- I can add a new option value or edit an existing one, and then I select “Save” to save the changes.
If I want to add variants to an existing product without duplicating it, I follow these steps:
From Desktop
- When I open “Products”, I go to “All products” and find the desired item.
- From the Variants section, I choose “Add variant”.
- I find the Options section and click to add a new option value. I can also edit the existing option values and add new variants.
- Finally, I select “Save” to finish.
From a Mobile Device
Adding variants from my mobile device may require some more steps because I need to add options before I proceed to add variants to my products. Here’s how to add options:
- I go to “All products” within the Shopify app
- I find the “Edit options” button under Variants.
- I select “Add option” and give it a name.
- Then, I choose some of the given values or add new ones by tapping the plus icon.
- I save each value and go back to the details screen to save the changes by tapping on “Save”.
Now I can move on to adding new variants:
- Once again, I go to “All products”.
- I choose the desired product and find the “Add variant” option in the Variants section.
- I type in the variant details and select “Save” when I’m finished.
- Finally, I go back to the product info screen and select “Save”.
3. How to Add Multiple Variants Simultaneously
You can also use a bulk action to add multiple variants at once. It’s much faster than adding them one by one. Here’s how to add several variants at the same time:
- First, open the “All products” section from your admin panel.
- Then, select the product that you want to add multiple variants to.
- Find the Variants section and check the boxes next to the desired variants. The selected variants will be duplicated.
- Navigate to the bar under Variants and click on “Actions”.
- From the drop-down menu, choose the desired option name under “Duplicate variants”.
- Add new option values and select “Done”.
Note: When selecting the variants to duplicate, make sure the option you’re copying has the same option values for all checked variants. For example, if you’re copying the Size option, all selected variants should have the M value. Other option values should be different, such as color or material.
Give Your Customers a Range of Choices
I know that it’s not realistic for your T-shirts to come in over 100 different colors. But sometimes, you might need more than just three options for certain products. That’s where apps like Infinite Options or Product Customizer, found in the Shopify app store, can come in handy.
If you don’t need to go all out, don’t worry. This article has got you covered when it comes to adding different choices for your products. You can decide whether you want to use the bulk action or add them one by one. The choice is yours.
