What is Apple Pay Cash?

How do I set up Apple Pay Cash?

Setting up Apple Pay Cash is super easy once you have the update. You’ll need a compatible device with iOS 11.2, two-factor authentication enabled, and a credit or debit card set up in your Wallet. And you have to be at least 18 years old to use the service.

1. Set up your Wallet by following the instructions.
2. Add money to your Wallet by selecting “Add Money” in the app.
3. Enter the amount you want to add. The minimum is $10.
4. Select “Add” and confirm the card you want to use.
5. Use Face ID or Touch ID to confirm the payment.

You’ll see your balance increase by the amount you added in the top right corner of the Wallet screen. And now your Wallet is ready to send money through iMessage.

How do I send money through iMessage?

Now that Apple Pay Cash is set up and you have a positive balance, you can send money to any iMessage user, just like sending a regular text message but with a little cash bonus attached.

To send money through iMessage:

1. Open iMessage and type a message to the recipient.
2. Select the Apple Store icon, then the Apple Pay icon at the bottom of the window.
3. Add the amount of cash in the new window that appears.
4. Double-check the amount and the transaction using Face ID or Touch ID.
5. Send the message.

The first time you make a transaction with Apple Pay Cash, you’ll have to agree to the terms and conditions. After that, you won’t be bothered again unless there are significant changes.

The recipient will receive the message as usual and can accept the payment. The cash amount will then be added to their Wallet.

Can I send money using Siri?

Of course, you can also use Siri to send money to someone. It’s so easy if you already have Apple Pay Cash set up and the recipient is an Apple user. Just say, “Siri, send ten dollars to James for the tickets.” Siri will find James in your Contacts, deduct $10 from your Wallet, and send it with the message “For the tickets”.

You can customize the dollar amount and the contact to fit your needs.

Anything else I should know about Apple Pay Cash?

Apple Pay Cash is a peer-to-peer payment system that works entirely within the Wallet app. You don’t need a bank account linked to Apple Pay Cash to receive money, but you do need one to load money. Every iOS user automatically has a Wallet account created with their Apple ID.

Just keep in mind that Apple Pay Cash isn’t always free. Debit card transactions are free, but if you use a credit card, there’s a 3% fee per transaction.
