Amazon Echo Show may cost more than the regular Echo, but the added functionalities are definitely worth the price.
Design
One great thing Amazon did with Echo Show is putting the speakers on the back. This means that most of the device is taken up by the screen. This not only looks great, but also makes the device more compact and easier to place anywhere.
The device has a DC power port and a microUSB port, as well as volume controls and a privacy button on the back. The upper front side of Echo Show contains four out of the eight microphones, as well as the camera.
Essentially, it looks like a thicker tablet device. The screen is large enough to provide maximum visual and ergonomic comfort. It features adaptive brightness, a resolution of 1,280 x 800, white balance and contrast settings, and many other impressive features.
Alexa
Now, you might think that with the touchscreen, Alexa is no longer necessary. But that’s wrong. Just like any other Amazon device, Echo Show still relies on Alexa for the most part. Voice is still the primary way to communicate with Echo Show, and the screen is just an added bonus.

Instead, when you’re not interacting with the device, Echo Show cycles through trending stories. These stories consist of pictures with captions, which you might find interesting.
But let’s be real, some people find these things just as annoying as ads and want to get rid of them. Luckily, you can easily do that from the settings screen. But here’s the thing, you can also add even more stuff to your home screen that you might not even like. You can have sports schedules, upcoming events, Alexa skills notifications, and a whole lot more. When it comes to customization, Echo Show is the king of Amazon devices.
However, it’s pretty clear that Amazon wants the Echo Show to be more of an “Echo” than a “Show”. That’s why you can’t access Alexa’s skills with the touch-screen. It might be frustrating, but Amazon made sure to only include features that make sense without touch.
On the bright side, the Echo Show does have a web browser, which is a really cool addition. You can choose between Firefox and Amazon’s Silk, and yes, you can use the virtual keyboard and voice search to find things.
Voice
Thanks to the decent screen size, YouTube finally makes sense on an Amazon device. But here’s the catch, you can’t directly voice-search on YouTube, you have to use the browser. It’s not Amazon’s fault though. However, you can do direct voice searches for Vevo music. On the downside, you can’t do that with Netflix, which is a bummer.
Amazon Echo Show
All things considered, the Amazon Echo Show is an amazing device, especially compared to the regular Echo. Yes, it’s pricey, but when you think about how responsive and well-designed the screen is, you won’t regret spending a little extra.
