How to Restore and View Deleted Telegram Messages

Hey there! So, Telegram is an amazing way to chat and connect with your pals and fam. It’s got loads of cool features so you can express yourself just the way you want. But sometimes, you may find yourself in a pickle when you try to revisit an old convo only to discover it’s been deleted. Ugh, the worst feeling ever! Whether it was a mistake or done on purpose, trying to recover a message that’s vanished into thin air can be a real headache. But don’t fret just yet! Depending on the situation, there’s still a chance you can retrieve those deleted Telegram messages.

3 Ways to Retrieve Deleted Telegram Messages

Now, keep in mind that these methods I’m about to tell you won’t guarantee a successful recovery. But hey, it’s worth a shot, right? Oh, and if you’ve gone ahead and deleted your whole Telegram account, sorry to say, but all your chats and data have already been wiped out. Poof!

1. Export Your Data via the Telegram App

If you’re serious about trying to recover a deleted Telegram message, then this is your best bet. But hold up! You’ll need to use the desktop version of Telegram for this method ’cause the data export feature isn’t available on mobile. So, let’s get started:

  1. First things first, hop on over to the desktop version of Telegram and log in.
  2. Once you’re in, look for the three-column icon on the main menu and give it a click.
  3. Ah, now you’ll want to head to “Settings” and then click on “Advanced”.
  4. Scroll down the page until you spot “Export Telegram data” and click on it.
  5. Woah, now you get to choose what you want to download! For messages, just toggle all the options under “Chat export settings”.
  6. Keep scrolling down and flip that switch for “Human-readable HTML”.
  7. Ready? Awesome! Time to hit that “Export” button.

Got all that? Good! Now, once you’ve made the request, sit back and relax ’cause you’ll have to wait 24 hours before the file is ready for download. Oh, and here’s a heads up: you’ll get a notification on your other devices that you’re currently logged in to, just to let you know about the export request. When you see the message from Telegram, go ahead and click “Allow”.

Just a little reminder: you won’t be able to accept the export request on your desktop app. Nope, not gonna happen. To approve it, you gotta open Telegram on your phone and give it the thumbs-up from there. And oh, if you’re not logged in to Telegram on your phone, you’ll need to wait another 24 hours before you can check out your data. Patience is a virtue, pal!

Once you give permission for the export request, go ahead and open the menu called Export Telegram data again. Then, click on Show My Data.

Your messages will be stored in a file named export_results.html, which will automatically open in your browser when you click on it.

2. Take Advantage of the Undo Deleted Chat Feature

Telegram offers a handy feature that allows you to recover deleted chats within a few seconds. However, please note that this feature only applies to entire conversations, not individual messages within a chat. It’s designed to help you out if you accidentally delete an entire conversation with a person or a group. Once you delete a chat, you’ll see a button labeled Undo at the bottom of your screen.

I have about 5 seconds to recover a deleted chat. Once that time has passed, the chat cannot be recovered.

3. Ask Others For a Copy of the Message

The best way to recover any deleted messages is to simply ask others for a copy of it. This only works if the message is deleted for me and not for everyone in the chat. I can talk to the people I’m chatting with and ask them to send me a copy of the message I need. It’s as simple as that. All I need is a little assistance from my contacts. After all, I add someone as a friend on Telegram because I trust them.

Should I Try a Third-Party App to Recover Deleted Telegram Messages?

There are many third-party apps that claim to recover deleted Telegram messages. However, I should be cautious about using them. These apps go against Telegram’s terms and conditions, so they may not be the safest option. It is strongly recommended to avoid using third-party apps to recover deleted Telegram messages.

Be Cautious When Deleting Messages on Telegram

Recovering deleted messages on Telegram can be a bit of a hassle. It’s better to not lose any messages at all. I should consider backing up my data at all times, just in case the conversations are permanently deleted. If I want more tips, I can learn how to read Telegram messages without being seen!
