Creating a Triangle in Photoshop: A Beginner’s Guide

How to Make a Triangle in Photoshop

There are six of them in total: the Rectangle Tool, the Rounded Rectangle Tool, the Ellipse Tool, the Polygon Tool, the Line Tool, and the Custom Shape Tool. Each of these tools has its own purpose and common use. To create a triangle, we will use the Polygon Tool.

Another option is to use the Custom Shape Tool, but in my opinion, the Polygon Tool is simpler for creating right-angle triangles.

Here are the steps for creating a triangle using the Polygon Tool:

1. Open Photoshop and select a new canvas.
2. Add a new layer by going to the Layer menu at the top, selecting New, and then choosing Layer.
   
3. Select the rectangle icon on the left menu to access the Shape Tools.
   
4. Change the shape to Polygon and make sure the Star option is set to No or unchecked.
   
5. Set the sides to 3.
   
6. Select the shape option and then draw the triangle shape on the canvas.
   
7. Select the color you want for the triangle from the menu and fill it.
   

If you prefer, you can also draw a rectangle and then cut it in half to create a triangle. Follow these instructions:

1. Open Photoshop and select a new canvas.
   
2. Add a new layer by going to the Layer menu at the top, selecting New, and then choosing Layer.

2. Select View and click on Show Grid.
   
3. Select the Pen Tool from the menu.
   
4. Select the Shape option, choose a fill color, and set the Stroke to no color.
   
5. Click on a position on your canvas to start drawing the triangle.
   
6. Click on another position.
   
7. Click on the third position.
   
8. Click on your first position again to close off all the sides of the triangle.
   
9. Use Free Transform (Ctrl+T) to resize the triangle as desired.

If you don’t want to fill the triangle with color, you can outline the shape instead.

Here’s how to outline the shape instead of filling it:

1. Open Photoshop and select a new canvas.

3. Select Shape Tools and then choose Polygon from the menu.
   
4. Set the Star option to No or uncheck it, and set the Sides to 3.
