The Ultimate Guide to Mastering the Share Sheet Menu in iOS 8

Welcome to my guide on using and customizing the Share Sheet Menu in iOS 8! If you’re as curious as I am about getting the most out of your iPhone, this is the place to be. Let’s dive in and explore all the ins and outs of this fantastic feature.

Getting Familiar with the Share Sheet Menu

First things first, let’s ensure we’re on the same page. The Share Sheet Menu is that remarkable little box of options that appears when you tap the sharing icon in an app or on the web. It’s like a personal assistant that helps you effortlessly share things with others. You can find it anywhere you see the sharing icon – be it in Safari, Photos, Notes, or any compatible app.

Basic Sharing Made Effortless

Now, onto the exciting part – using the Share Sheet Menu! When you tap that sharing icon, the menu springs to life, offering you a range of ways to share your content. From messaging friends and family to posting on social media, the Share Sheet Menu has got you covered.

With just a few taps, you can send that funny cat video to your closest pals via Messages, add it to your photo library, or even save it to a different app altogether. You can also share content with multiple people at once – what a time-saver!

A World of Customization

But wait, there’s more! The Share Sheet Menu doesn’t stop at basic sharing – it’s also customizable to suit your personal needs and preferences.

Let’s say you have certain apps that you use more frequently than others. Why not arrange the order of options in the menu to prioritize your go-to apps? Simply tap and hold on an option, then drag it up or down to your desired position. Now, your favorite apps are always just a fingertip away.

And that’s not all – you can even add additional options to the Share Sheet Menu. Want to save an article to your favorite read-later app? No problem! Just tap on “More” in the menu, and enable the options you want. You can also rearrange the order of these additional options by dragging and dropping. It’s like having your very own menu designer.

The Final Touch: Editing Actions

As if it couldn’t get any better, the Share Sheet Menu also allows you to edit actions within certain apps. This means you can change how an app shares content or even add your own personal touch.

For example, let’s say you’re a social media enthusiast who wants to tweet directly from the Photos app. Simply tap on “More” in the Share Sheet Menu, find the app you’re interested in, and enable it. Now, you’re all set to share your stunning photos with your Twitter followers without even leaving the app.

Time to Share Like a Pro

Now that you’re armed with all these incredible Share Sheet Menu techniques, it’s time to unleash your sharing superpowers. Take a moment to explore the feature in different apps, experiment with the customization options, and make it your own. You’ll soon wonder how you ever managed without it.

Remember, the Share Sheet Menu is here to make your life easier and more efficient. So go ahead, share that amazing recipe, that hilarious meme, or that inspiring quote. With the Share Sheet Menu by your side, the possibilities are endless.

Hey there! I’ve got some exciting news about the latest iOS update. Sharing has gotten a major upgrade in iOS 8. Now, you can easily share important information with third-party apps and services using the new extensions for iOS Share Sheets. And the best part? You can even customize the share sheet menu to suit your preferences, even if you’re only using Apple’s own extensions.

To customize your iPhone or iPad share sheet, just open any app that has access to the share sheet menu. For example, let’s use Safari. When you’re on a webpage, tap the share icon – it’s the one that looks like a square box with an arrow pointing up. This will bring up the default share sheet layout, which includes options like Messages, Mail, Twitter, Facebook, and more. However, if you scroll to the right, you’ll see a button labeled “More”.

Now, there are actually two “More” buttons. The top one lets you customize app sharing, while the bottom one lets you customize actions. Let’s focus on the top row for now. You’ll see some default options like Messages, Mail, Twitter, and Facebook. But with the new extensions available in iOS 8, you’ll also find compatible third-party apps in this list. For instance, I’ve installed Microsoft OneNote and OmniFocus 2, both of which support the new share extensions and are displayed in the list.

Let’s say I don’t really use Twitter or Facebook to share things, but I frequently use OneNote and OmniFocus. In that case, I can disable Twitter and Facebook by tapping their buttons to turn them off and enable OneNote and OmniFocus by turning their buttons on. You can also rearrange the order of the extensions by dragging them to your preferred position. This way, your most frequently used share extensions will be right at the beginning of the list.

Once you’re done customizing the app sharing, click on “Done” to head back to the main share sheet menu. Now, tap the “more” button on the second row. Here, you’ll find both first and third-party actions, such as adding an item to your iPhone home screen, printing with AirPrint, or importing it into a compatible third-party app. In my case, I have AnyList, which lets me quickly import recipes, and 1Password, which automatically inserts login information into compatible apps and websites.

Unfortunately, you can’t disable or hide the default actions, but you can rearrange them by dragging their bars and moving them up or down the list. This way, you can prioritize your favorite or most-used actions, making them easily accessible.

Now, a word of caution. In the current version of iOS 8, custom share sheet orders are not preserved between share sheet sessions. This means that even though your custom third-party actions and apps will stay, the default order will be restored when you close the share sheet and corresponding app. However, I’m pretty sure Apple will fix this bug with the first iOS 8 update, so no need to worry.

Currently, there are only a limited number of apps that take advantage of iOS 8’s share extensions. But as the operating system matures, you should keep an eye out for updates of your favorite apps. Just tap “Done” to save your changes and return to the share sheet menu. Your customizations like extension visibility and position will be displayed, and they’ll persist with the share sheet, even when you use it in other applications.

So go ahead, customize your share sheet and start sharing your favorite content with ease! iOS 8 has your back.
