Sleep Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus

Sleep Mode on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus

The Do Not Disturb mode is a feature that many Android phones have. If you’ve been looking for it on your Galaxy S8 or Galaxy S8 Plus and can’t find it, it’s because Samsung calls it the Blocking Mode. They chose a different name because their main competitor, Apple, uses the same name. But don’t worry, the Blocking Mode can help you avoid calls when you’re busy with an important meeting, a special date, or just trying to get some rest without interruptions. And the best part is, you can customize it to allow emergency calls and important alarms to come through. It’s easy to set up and use, so let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Settings menu.
  2. Tap on the Blocking Mode.
  3. Toggle the switch in the upper-right corner from Off to On.

After you’ve done that, you’ll see a small circle with a dash in the status bar. That means you’re now in Blocking Mode.

How to Customize Blocking Mode on Galaxy S8
Just below the Features section, you’ll see a list of sounds and alerts that Blocking Mode will block on your phone. Most people start by blocking incoming calls and turning off notifications. But if you rely on your phone’s alarm to wake up in the morning, make sure you don’t check the “Turn off alarm and time” box. Another important setting is the start and stop times for when Blocking Mode will be active by default. Unfortunately, you can’t customize it based on your calendar or weekdays versus weekends. Lastly, you can allow specific contacts to reach you even when Blocking Mode is turned on. You can either select your favorite contacts or create a custom list. This way, even in Do Not Disturb mode, you can still receive calls from important people.

Now that you’ve chosen what calls and notifications you want to receive, from which contacts, and during what time periods, you’re all set with the Do Not Disturb mode on your Galaxy device. But if you want to block calls from a specific contact, keep in mind that this setting won’t do that. To block annoying repeat callers, you’ll need to add their number to the Reject List in the Phone app. That’s a different feature than Blocking Mode.
