Google Meet has become the go-to video conferencing tool for many organizations. You can do a lot on the platform to enhance your virtual meeting experience, from changing your backgrounds to enabling captions. One of the most important features is the ability to record important Google Meet sessions for future reference. But who can actually record a Google Meet call? And can you record a Google Meet meeting on your phone? Let me answer all your questions.

Who Can Record a Call in Google Meet?

Before I tell you how to record a call in Google Meet, it’s important to know that not everyone can do it. Recording a meeting is only available for Google Workspace accounts or Google One subscribers who pay for 2TB or more of storage space.

For Workspace accounts, the administrator must have enabled the Google Meet recording functionality. If it’s enabled, you can record a Google Meet call as a host or co-host. However, if the host management option is turned off, anyone within the same Google Workspace organization can record the Meet call.

If you’re not a part of the host organization, you can only record the call if you’re promoted to co-host.

One important thing to note is that you can only record Google Meet calls from your PC. The recording functionality is not available on the Android or iPhone app. Unfortunately, there’s no easy solution for this limitation.

If you want to try out recording in Google Meet and see if it meets your needs, you can sign up for a free Google Workspace account.
