With a few simple maneuvers, you’ll be able to effortlessly transform your sideways or upside-down videos into upright masterpieces. Let’s dive right in!

Firstly, I must emphasize the importance of ensuring your iMovie software is up to date. This seemingly minuscule detail can make all the difference in successfully rotating your videos. So, make sure to double-check and update your iMovie application before proceeding with the following steps.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s move on to the exciting part – rotating your videos! Sit back and relax, for I shall serve as your trusty navigator on this digital adventure.

To begin, open iMovie and select the project that contains the video you wish to rotate. Once you have the project open, locate the video clip in the timeline. This is where the magic happens!

Now, pay close attention – in the top-right corner of the preview window, you’ll find several icons. Look for the one that resembles a gear, and click on it. A dropdown menu will appear, revealing a range of video editing options. Among these options, seek out the “Rotate Left” and “Rotate Right” buttons. Are you ready to make your video do a graceful pirouette?

Depending on the direction you want your video to rotate, simply click on the corresponding button. With a single click, iMovie will dutifully rotate your video in the desired direction. How splendid!

But what if you want to take it a step further? Perhaps your video requires a more dramatic spin, a complete flip. Fear not, for iMovie has a trick up its sleeve! Within the same dropdown menu, you’ll notice the “Flip Horizontal” and “Flip Vertical” options. These nifty features will completely reverse the orientation of your video, providing a fresh perspective.

Now that you’ve mastered the art of rotating and flipping videos in iMovie, let’s not forget the finishing touches. Give your video that extra dash of finesse by adjusting its duration, volume, or even adding some captivating effects. With iMovie’s array of editing tools at your disposal, the possibilities are endless.

Alas, we have reached the end of our journey through the depths of iMovie. I hope this guide has shed light on the enigmatic realm of video rotation, enabling you to conquer any sideways or topsy-turvy footage that comes your way. So go forth, brave explorer, and let your videos spiral into perfection!

Have you ever taken a video upside down? I know I have! Whether it was intentional or not, there might come a time when you want to rotate your video. Luckily, there’s a program called iMovie that can help you with that.

You can find iMovie on the official App Store and Apple website. Best of all, it’s free to download and use. While there are other apps out there that can rotate videos, iMovie is Apple’s own solution.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to use iMovie on your iPhone and Mac to easily rotate your videos.

How to Rotate Videos in iMovie on iPhone and iPad

Before we get started, please make sure you have iOS version 9.3 or newer installed. These instructions are for iMovie 10. Once you have downloaded the app and updated it to the latest version on your device, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open iMovie on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Select Create Project and choose Movie.
  3. Find the video you want to edit in your Camera Roll and select it.
  4. Choose Create Movie.
  5. Now, select Edit.
  6. With two fingers, hold the top of your screen where the video is. Without lifting your fingers, rotate them to rotate the video. You can rotate it in 90-degree increments either clockwise or counterclockwise.
  7. When you’re done, tap Done to confirm.
  8. Next, you can save the video. Select Share, then Save Video, and choose the export size (ranging from 360p to 1080p).
  9. Your video will be saved to your Library, and you can access it using the Photos app.

How to Rotate Videos in iMovie on Mac

Hey there! Did you know that every Mac comes with iMovie already installed? It’s pretty cool because you can use it to rotate videos from older iPhone models, like iPhone 7 and below. No need to get all set up; just follow these steps to rotate your videos in iMovie on your Mac:

  1. First things first, let’s start iMovie on your Mac.
  2. Once iMovie is open, click on “Create New” and select “Movie.” Easy peasy so far, right?
  3. Now, click on “Import Media” and select the video you want to edit. Once you’ve made your choice, confirm by clicking “OK.”
  4. Almost there! Find your video in the Media pane and select it.
  5. Great job! Next, we’re going to select the “Crop” option from the Preview screen.
  6. Now comes the fun part – choosing how you want to rotate your video! You can go for either the “Rotate Clockwise” or “Rotate Counterclockwise” options. The video will rotate in 90-degree increments, just like in the iOS version.
  7. Ah, one tiny setback – rotating the video may cause those annoying bars to appear at the top and bottom. But worry not! Just select “Crop,” and you’ll be able to remove them.
  8. Using the handles, you can pull and stretch to remove those pesky bars. Once you’re satisfied, confirm your changes by clicking the blue checkmark.
  9. Finally, it’s time to save your masterpiece! To do that, you’ll need to select “Share,” then “File.” Choose a name for your video file, and pick the folder where you want to save it. Voila!

Just a quick heads-up – rotating your video in the Mac version of iMovie may reduce its quality a bit. But here’s the good news – the iOS version doesn’t mess with the video quality at all!

Is iMovie Going Out of Style?

I’m sure you’re as eager as I am for the upcoming iOS 13 update. It’s right around the corner and it’s going to bring some serious improvements to your iPods, iPads, and iPhones, taking their performance to a whole new level.

And to top it off, this update will come with a bunch of exciting new features, and the best part is, it won’t cost you a dime! One of the biggest changes will be in the photo and video editing department. You’ll be able to rotate videos without relying on iMovie anymore.

From what I’ve heard, this new feature is likely going to be built right into the camera app. Plus, the already amazing lighting capabilities of Apple devices will get even better. iOS 13 is planning to introduce advanced customization options to make your photos and videos even more stunning.

But that’s not all. There will also be a dark mode, which adapts to your needs, the time of day, and the surrounding light. Some apps already have a dark mode, but this update is aiming for a system-wide solution.

All in all, there’s a ton of new stuff coming our way. iOS devices will become even faster, customization options will be expanded, and many apps will be given a complete makeover.

Catch You on the Flip Side

We’ve all been there – shooting a video upside down and getting frustrated in the process. But don’t worry, all Apple devices have got you covered. Thankfully, iMovies is the ultimate video editing tool that allows you to rotate, crop, and do so much more. And the best part? You can use it on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad!
