Trouble With Your Mac? How to Check Your Apple Support Options

Got a potential hardware problem with your Mac? Not sure if your AppleCare coverage is still active? But before anything else, make sure your backups are working properly. The first step is to find out if you can get service from Apple. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you didn’t have to pay for the repair yourself? Luckily, macOS has a built-in way to check if your computer is still eligible for support. Let’s take a look and learn how to check your Apple support options!
To start, just click on the Apple icon in the menu bar at the top-left of your screen and choose About This Mac.

A window called About This Mac will appear. Click on the Service tab.

On the Service tab, you’ll see a button that says Check my service and support coverage status. macOS will let you know that it needs to send your Mac’s serial number to Apple. Every Mac has its own unique serial number, and this is how Apple checks if your Mac is eligible for support. If you’re okay with sharing that information, click on Allow.

By clicking Allow, your Mac’s default browser will open automatically and show you a “CAPTCHA” challenge to make sure you’re not a bot. Just type the code you see in the gray box into the entry box below. Some of these CAPTCHA images can be hard to read, so you can click on Refresh Code to get a different one that might be easier for you. If you prefer, you can also click on Vision Impaired to hear an audio code.

CAPTCHA Box

Wow, did I just nail that or what? Man, I can’t stand those CAPTCHA things. They’re such a hassle!

So, once you manage to crack the CAPTCHA (good luck with that), and hit that trusty Continue button, you’ll be taken to a page that spills all the beans about your Mac. You’ll find out its exact model and year, when you bought it, and even the status of your support options. Talk about getting the lowdown!

MacBook Pro Options

Hey there! Let me tell you about my trusty old Mac. It’s a 2015 MacBook Pro, not the newest model, but still reliable. Sadly, I didn’t get AppleCare, so now my free support options have run out. Don’t worry, though! There are still ways I can get help if anything goes wrong with the hardware. Unless there’s a recall, though, I’ll have to pay for any repairs. Bummer, right?
Moving on, if you find yourself in a pickle and need some assistance, you can find links on that page to contact Apple support or even set up a repair if necessary. So, if your screen starts flickering or your drive acts up, this is where you should start! Of course, the word “good” is a bit subjective here, because let’s be real, dealing with a broken Mac is not a fun time. My heart goes out to you if that’s the case.
