How to Rotate Your Screen Image

How to Rotate Your Screen Image

Hey there! I’ve got a cool trick to share with you that you can do on your Windows computer. You can actually rotate your entire screen orientation. Pretty neat, right? All you have to do is press Ctrl + Alt + [Arrow Key]. If you want to keep or return the orientation to normal, just press the up arrow. If you want to rotate the screen clockwise, simply press the right, down, or left arrows, respectively.

Now, keep in mind that this trick may not work on older graphics cards or integrated video. It’s mostly compatible with newer graphic chipsets.

Thanks for just repeating what’s already in the blog, genius.

Wow, brilliant! I was playing an older game on dosbox and thought that was the reason for the screen rotation, but it turns out it was just the controls I was using! Thanks so much!

Thanks, simple and straight to the point.

Hey, is there an option to check if the screen rotation doesn’t work? I have a user who got a new build on her PC, and she doesn’t have the option to flip the screen like her colleagues do. Any idea where to look for this option? Thanks for your help. By the way, I accidentally rotated my screen once and couldn’t figure out how to fix it!

On my Acer, using Vista, I can rotate the screen by clicking on my ATI (red) icon in the system tray (Display driver).

I’ve tried this so many times, but it isn’t working! Is there anything else I can do?

So, my cat decided to sit on my laptop and rotated the screen display. I tried everything, even Windows Help (which was useless). I was in total panic mode, so I listened to my wife and did a search on Ask.com. And guess what? I found your site along with the answer. I can’t thank you enough!

My brother’s laptop screen is flipped, and we can’t figure out how to put it back. I tried the things you mentioned here, but they’re not working.

How to Rotate Your Screen Image

Hey there! This is a post by David Risley from Sep 27, 2006, explaining a really cool trick to rotate your screen image on Windows. You can try the key combination: Ctrl + Alt + [Arrow Key]. The up arrow will keep or return the orientation to normal, and the right, down, and left arrows will rotate the screen clockwise. Just a heads up, this may not work on older graphics cards or integrated video.

Another possibility: check Control Panels for an “Intel Extreme Graphics” control panel. Open it, and you should find an option to enable rotation, as well as buttons for rotating 90, 180, and 270 degrees. If you select Enable Rotation and turn off Num lock, you can rotate the screen using the arrow keys on the keypad. For example, Ctrl/Option/Right Arrow (in the keypad) will rotate it 90 degrees. Ctrl/Option/Down Arrow for 180, Ctrl/Option/Left Arrow for 270, and Ctrl/Option/Up arrow to return the screen to normal.
