How to Install Fusion on Kodi
Kodi is a popular media streamer that allows you to manage your media library and stream content from the web. It’s customizable, plays various video formats, and has a large fanbase. Kodi is often used to access pirated content, but it has other uses as well.
One of the great things about Kodi is its flexibility in installing different app and media repositories through installers. Fusion is one of these installers and has a long history with Kodi. However, Fusion and its host, TVAddons, have undergone changes and may not be what they used to be.
TVAddons was known for providing a piracy repository for Kodi, which caused controversy. In 2017, TVAddons and Fusion went offline due to a copyright lawsuit. They later returned, but with significant changes. Fusion has removed problematic content and now focuses on legal streaming options.
So while you can still install Fusion, it’s not the same as before. However, Fusion still offers solid legal streaming content, making it worth keeping around. We’ll explain how to install Fusion and explore its content in the next section.
How to Install Fusion
To install Fusion, open Kodi and go to the settings. Select “File Browser” and then “Add source.” Enter the URL for Fusion, which is currently “http://fusion.tvaddons.co”. Rename the URL and save it. Now you can back out to the main menu and access Fusion.
So, the next step really depends on whether you’ve installed repositories from zip files before or not. If you have, you probably already made the necessary adjustments to your Kodi settings to allow for installing content from “unknown sources.” If that’s the case, you’re good to go and can move on to the next step. If not, don’t worry, I’ll guide you through it.
First, let’s dive into the Settings menu. You can find it easily by looking for the settings cog we pointed out earlier. Once you’re there, select “System Settings” from the options. Now, using your mouse or remote, head over to “Add-ons” in the side menu.
Alright, now you need to find the toggle that says “Unknown sources.” This toggle is what allows you to install content from sources like TVAddons and Fusion. Once you locate it, toggle it on. A prompt will appear on your display to confirm the changes. Just go ahead and confirm it.
Great! Now, to get back to the main menu, simply tap on the menu icon in the top-left corner. And that’s it! You’re all set to continue with the next steps.
Alright, so let’s start off by heading to the Add-ons menu on your screen. You can find it on the left side of the screen, right between the Radio and Pictures options. This menu is where you can install or uninstall different add-ons and repositories. We’re going to install Smash on your device, so let’s go to the add-on browser. You can do this by clicking on the box icon or selecting “Add-on browser” in the middle of the page if you don’t have any add-ons yet.
Once you’re in the add-on browser, you’ll see five options. The fourth one from the top is “Install from zip file.” Click on that option, and it will allow you to install Fusion using the URL you added earlier. Look for the name you gave Fusion on the list and select it.
Alright, we’re good to go. Fusion has now been added to your add-ons list, and you can use it to install various repositories provided by TVAddons. The best part is, it’s super easy to customize and install add-ons to your device with the Indigo plugin that comes with Fusion.
Let’s get started. Fusion has three main folders for installation: Begin Here, Kodi Repos, and Kodi Scripts. We’ll begin with “Begin Here.” From there, we’ll install Indigo onto your platform. Once that’s done, we’ll move on to the Kodi Repos section.
Now, in the Kodi Repos section, select “English” and search for “repository.xbmchub-3.0.0.zip” to install the main Fusion repository. Once the installation is complete, you can exit the “Install from zip file” menu and click on “Install from repository.”
Here, you’ll find the whole list of XBMC Hub content that we added in the previous step. But, if you want even more repositories, you can find them in the “Zip file” menu, which we used just a few moments ago to install the Fusion hub. The best part is, all of these repositories are completely free to download and offer tons of exciting content to watch.
What’s New in Fusion?
Back in the day, Fusion was mainly known for hosting illegal content like Exodus and other pirated stuff on the internet. However, ever since TVAddons and Fusion made a comeback, it seems like the creators have shifted their focus towards providing users with a legal way to enjoy free entertainment. This change of direction has left many loyal fans disappointed. If you’re one of them, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered with some great alternatives to Fusion. Take a look at the options below.
Alright, here’s the deal. Fusion offers a great range of content that you can access by exploring the repositories in the zip file you added earlier. Apart from the XBMC hub, there are over twenty other repositories that provide various add-ons for videos, music, photos, customization, and more – all for free. Let me give you a quick rundown of some of the add-ons you can find in the new Fusion repo:
- USTVNow Plus: This is one of my personal favorites. It allows you to watch basic television channels like CBS or NBC for free in the United States (or outside the US with a VPN). You can even add DVR functionality, although cloud storage comes at a cost. You’ll need to sign up for a free account online, but you’ll get access to 7 channels. If you want more content, you can upgrade. The best part is that you can directly stream your live TV through Kodi. Just keep in mind that you won’t be able to watch local channels – it’s all from Harrisburg, PA. So, don’t rely on it for local news. But for events like football or the Oscars, this is a great option if you can’t get a signal with an antenna where you live.
- Last Week Tonight: This is the popular HBO show hosted by John Oliver. You can watch it directly through your Kodi feed, making it convenient to catch up on episodes or enjoy your favorite content on the web!
- Funny or Die: If you’re into comedy sketches, this one’s for you. Funny or Die started out as a website and now you can watch it right from your couch using the Fusion-installed Kodi app. It was created by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (director of Step Brothers, Anchorman, etc.) and is still one of the best sketch shows on the web.
- Adult Swim: This is a must-have for fans of Adult Swim shows like Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken, and Family Guy reruns. If you’ve been missing out on your favorite Adult Swim content since cutting the cord, get this app from Fusion today.
And that’s just a taste of what you can find in Fusion. With so many repositories and hundreds of apps in the TVAddons lineup, it’s a wise move to grab as many free apps as you can and expand your library of content.
Alternatives to Fusion
Of course, it seems that several contenders have taken Fusion’s place in the world of Kodi. Fusion used to be a big deal for many Kodi users, but now there are plenty of alternatives popping up. Let’s face it, Fusion wasn’t the first piracy-based platform available to Kodi users, and it definitely won’t be the last.
So, here’s a rundown of some great alternatives to the old version of Fusion, before it shut down in June 2017.
- Smash Repo: Smash has become the go-to alternative for users searching for something similar to what Fusion offered. It’s best known for Covenant, a fork of Exodus. Many Kodi users have turned to Smash Repo since Fusion’s shutdown. It has tons of addons and helpful tools to enhance your Kodi experience. Despite going offline a few times recently, you can still download and install it using an online zip file.
- NoobsandNerds Repo: Ignore the awkward name, this repo has gained immense popularity following the fall of Fusion last summer. It’s known for offering BoB add-on, which is almost identical to Exodus and Covenant. It also provides MetalliQ and other piracy-enabled streaming apps. Both this repo and Smash repo are banned from discussion on the Kodi support site, so avoid bringing them up online.
- SuperRepo: The final entry on our alternatives list, SuperRepo includes numerous fantastic add-ons that will feel familiar to ex-Fusion users. One of our favorites, LazyTV, is available here, allowing you to create a randomized playlist of your favorite TV shows from your library. Combine this with downloads from Smash or NoobsandNerds for the best Kodi experience online.
For many Kodi users, the return of Fusion and TVAddons initially brought relief, only to be followed by disappointment when they realized Fusion would never be the same. You can still install Fusion and access a variety of repositories and add-ons, but apps like Exodus and other piracy-based content providers are no longer available. They’ve been removed from the app’s listings and are no longer hosted by their primary sources. This is undoubtedly disappointing for some users, and for a few, it may even be a deal breaker. However, is Fusion completely unusable? Not at all. As users who prefer to avoid piracy and potentially harmful sources, we were excited to see the app return with new features and improved usability. Seriously, Fusion is still one of the best repositories on the market. If you’re looking for free videos while avoiding the copyright risks associated with apps like Exodus or Covenant, Fusion might be better than ever.
