How to Find Out Who Blocked You on Facebook
With so many friends on Facebook, it can be difficult to notice if someone suddenly disappears from your radar. But if you haven’t heard from that old flame or partner in crime in a long time, it’s possible they’ve decided to cut ties on social media.
Figuring out if someone has blocked you is not always easy. After all, Facebook doesn’t send notifications when you’ve been blocked. The person who blocked you simply disappears from your view. However, if you’re determined to find out the truth, you can try a few things.
What Does Blocking Mean?
First, look for specific signs of blocking. If someone blocks you, you won’t be able to:
- Find them in a search.
- View their profile.
- Send them a friend request.
- Message them through Messenger.
- Tag them in photos.
- Post on their timeline.
If these six things are true, then you’ve probably been blocked. However, it’s still possible that something else is going on. These issues could also arise if someone has deleted their account or if Facebook has disabled it. It’s also possible that they’ve unfriended you and have strict privacy settings.
Ask a Mutual Friend
Still not sure? Go to the profile of a mutual friend and check their friends list. If the person you suspect of blocking you isn’t on that list, it means either you’ve been blocked or your mutual friend is no longer friends with them.
You can also ask the mutual friend to do some detective work for you. Can they find the person? Can they see their profile? If they can, then you’ve definitely been blocked.
Review Old Conversations
If you don’t have any mutual friends willing to help, don’t worry. There’s another surefire way to know if you’ve been blocked.
Look for an old conversation with the person on Facebook Messenger. If you still see their name and photo, it means you haven’t been blocked, just unfriended. If their name has been replaced with a generic “Facebook User” label, it means their account has been disabled. But if you see their profile picture replaced with a Facebook logo, and their name is bolded and unclickable, then you’ve definitely been blocked.
Blocking on Messenger
It’s possible to block someone only on Messenger and not on the main Facebook app. If this happens, the blocked person can still see your Facebook profile. They just can’t message you through Messenger or Facebook.
You can tell if you’ve been blocked on Messenger if you can still see the blocker’s Facebook profile but can’t message them. It’s as simple as that.
Use an App
App developers understand that keeping track of social media circles can be stressful, and nobody wants to feel disliked. If you’re really eager to find out if people are removing you from their friends list or blocking you, you can use apps like Who Deleted Me or Who Unfriended Me to keep an eye on it.
Knowing If You’ve Been Unblocked
Sometimes people change their minds, and friends who had blocked you before might unblock you. However, Facebook won’t notify you or automatically revert to being friends again. The only way to know if you’ve been unblocked is if the person sends you a friend request or if you keep checking for the signs mentioned above.
In the meantime, try not to worry too much about those who block you and instead appreciate the friends who stick around.
