How to Enable Flash Plugin in Chrome for Specific Websites

So, Google Chrome is like one of the coolest web browsers out there, and loads of people love it because it’s all customizable and supports various extensions. But here’s the thing – Flash content is blocked on Chrome by default because apparently, it’s pretty risky when it comes to security. It’s vulnerable to hacks and stuff, and can even spread ransomware like WannaCry. Yikes!

But, you know what’s even crazier? There are some websites that still need Flash if you want to check them out. I’m talking about websites like Facebook and Instagram. And trust me, plenty of small websites just refuse to make the switch to HTML 5 for some reason. I guess that’s just how the internet is for now.

But don’t worry, even though lots of people will tell you to just download Adobe Flash and enable it, it doesn’t really work like that. And going to the chrome://plugins page won’t help either. I mean, seriously, it just leads you to a page that says “this site cannot be reached.” Talk about frustrating!

But guess what? I got you covered. In this guide, I’ll show you how to enable Flash in Chrome, just for those websites that need it. So, let’s get started!

Checking Chrome’s Flash Options

First things first, you gotta check the Flash options in your Chrome browser. Easy peasy. Just open a new Chrome tab and type chrome://flags. Now, you might see a scary warning that says something about experimental features and all that. Ignore it, it won’t bite. Scroll down the list of features until you find “Prefer HTML over Flash” and “Run all Flash content when Flash setting is set to allow.” Make sure both of them are set to “Default.”

Now, open another Chrome tab and type in chrome://components. Here, you’ll find the Adobe Flash Player setting. Just click on the “Check for update” button. Good job!

Next, click on the three dots in the top right corner to open the Chrome options menu. From the menu, choose “Settings.” Scroll all the way to the bottom, click on “Show Advanced Settings,” and keep scrolling until you reach the “Content Settings” section under “Privacy.”

You’ll see a popup box. Look for the “Flash” section and select “Ask first before allowing sites to Run Flash.” Make sure the box next to it is checked. If you want to completely block Flash, you can choose that option too, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Trust me, there’s not much reason to do that. Just don’t click on “Allow sites to run Flash” because that means all websites can use it anytime. And that’s not good.

Enabling Flash for Specific Websites

Now comes the final step! To enable Flash, you have to do it separately for each website. So, go to the Content Settings section in Chrome. Find the Flash part and click on “Manage exceptions.” You’ll see a bunch of websites listed there. Choose the ones you need Flash for and set their behavior to “Allow.”

But hey, if you don’t want to go through all that trouble, there’s an easier way. Just visit the website you want to enable Flash on and look for the Flash icon on the left side of the URL in your browser. Sometimes, it’s a lock icon if the connection is secure (HTTPS), and other times, it’s just an information icon. Click on it and choose “Always allow on this site.” Simple, right?

Sometimes, the website won’t even ask you if you want to enable Flash content. In that case, you gotta go to your settings and manually choose “Always allow on this site.” Once you do that, close the tab and reload the website. Now, the Flash content should show up.
