How to Disable Auto Brightness on Your iPhone

How to Disable Auto Brightness on Your iPhone

Hey there! Today, I want to show you how you can turn off the auto brightness feature on your iPhone. You know, that pesky setting that automatically adjusts your screen brightness based on the lighting conditions around you. Well, sometimes it’s just plain annoying, right?

So here’s how you can take control and disable auto brightness, giving you the power to set your screen brightness exactly how you want it. Let’s get started!

First things first, go ahead and unlock your iPhone. Once you’ve done that, find the “Settings” app. It’s usually a gray icon with gears on it. Tap on that to open it up.

Now, scroll down until you see the “Display & Brightness” option and give it a tap. You’ll see a bunch of different settings related to your screen display, but the one we’re interested in is “Auto Brightness.” It’s a little toggle button that can be turned on or off.

When you find it, you’ll notice that it’s probably turned on by default. That means your iPhone is automatically adjusting the brightness of your screen based on the lighting conditions. But guess what? We’re going to turn that off.

Simply give the toggle switch a tap to turn it off. When it’s grayed out, that means auto brightness is disabled. You did it!

Now, you have complete control over your screen brightness. Need it brighter? No problem, just manually adjust it. Prefer it dimmer? Easy peasy, just slide that brightness slider to your desired level.

By disabling auto brightness, you’ll never have to worry about your iPhone trying to outsmart you with its brightness adjustments ever again. It’s your phone, after all, and you should have the final say on how bright or dim your screen should be.

And there you have it! Follow these steps, and you’ll be able to disable the auto brightness feature on your iPhone in no time. Enjoy the freedom to set your screen brightness just the way you like it. Happy iPhone-ing!

The iPhone is a device that means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. But one thing it definitely lacks is good battery life. Even if you’re like me and only use it moderately, you’ll find yourself needing to charge it every day, hoping it’ll last until the end of the day. Luckily, there are some things you can do to make your iPhone’s battery last longer. By the time you finish reading this guide, you’ll have enough knowledge to get a full day of moderate use out of your iPhone.

I personally have iOS 11, so all the tips I’m sharing will be based on that. But don’t worry if you have a different version of iOS, because these tips should still work even if the menu names are a little different.

How to Disable Auto Brightness on your iPhone in iOS 11

The iPhone’s nifty feature of automatically adjusting screen brightness doesn’t always hit the mark. So, why not take matters into your own hands and set the brightness to your liking? It’s not just about usability; there’s also a bit of power saving involved.

  1. First, go to Settings and select General.
  2. Next, tap Accessibility and choose Display Accommodations.
  3. Finally, flip the switch next to Auto-Brightness to turn it off.

I have to admit, “Display Accommodations” is quite an odd name for a menu, but that’s where you’ll find the auto brightness settings in iOS 11.

Save Your Battery in iOS 11

I’m here to share some practical tips that will help you maximize the battery life on your iPhone. So, let’s get started!

Activate Low Power Mode

Have you ever seen the alert for Low Power Mode when your battery hits 20% charge? Well, you can actually turn it on manually before that. Personally, I use this mode when I know I’ll be away from a power outlet for most of the day. It can save a lot of energy, as long as you don’t use too many power-hungry features.

  1. Navigate to Settings and then go to Battery.
  2. Toggle on Low Power Mode.

By the way, if you’re curious about which apps consume the most battery, you can check that out on this screen too. It’s good to know which apps you should avoid until you can charge your phone again.

Disable Background App Refresh

We all know that shutting down apps doesn’t really save battery, thanks to that famous email from Tim Cook. However, that doesn’t mean we want apps refreshing themselves when we aren’t using them. One such feature is Background App Refresh, which automatically prepares your apps for when you usually open them. If you don’t need it, switch it off.

  1. Navigate to Settings and then go to General.
  2. Select Background App Refresh and toggle it off.

Bid Farewell to the Facebook App

Believe it or not, having the Facebook app running can drain up to 15% of your iPhone’s battery in a single day. Tests by a British newspaper revealed that even when you’re not using it, Facebook is the biggest battery hog among all apps. I uninstalled it more than a year ago and switched to Facebook Lite, and my battery life has greatly improved since then. If you can, try accessing Facebook through Safari, or give Facebook Lite a shot.

Keep WiFi and Bluetooth Off Until You Need Them

Control Center makes it a breeze to use WiFi and Bluetooth, so there’s no need to keep either of them on until you actually need them. Not only can they pose a security risk when not in use, but they also consume a significant amount of battery. Even Bluetooth Low Energy drains battery, so it’s best to turn both of them off until you need them.

Disable or Control Location Services

Many apps use Location Services even when they don’t really need to, constantly pinging the feature to stay connected to your location. If you’re not tied to a location for any particular reason, you can simply turn it off.

  1. Go to Settings and then select Privacy.
  2. Select Location Services and toggle it off.

Alternatively, if you don’t want certain apps accessing your location, you can individually disable their location access. This will not only reduce battery usage, but also enhance your privacy.

Update Apps at Home

If you want to save a ton of battery on those days when all your apps and iOS want to update at the same time, I have a habit for you. Try performing all app and iOS updates while you’re at home and your iPhone is charging. Turn on WiFi during your morning routine and let your iPhone install any app updates it needs while it’s charging. This way, you minimize the chances of it needing an update when you’re away from a charger.
