Galaxy Note 10.1 – Can’t Use the Touch Screen?
Hey there! So, you’re having some trouble with your Galaxy Note 10.1’s touch screen, huh? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!
It seems like the touch screen on your Galaxy Note 10.1 is not responding. Well, the first thing I recommend you do is check for any physical damage. Is there any visible cracks or scratches on the screen? If there are, that could be the reason why it’s not working properly. In that case, you might need to have it repaired or replaced.
If there’s no physical damage, there could be an issue with the software. Sometimes, a simple restart can do wonders. Press and hold the power button until a menu appears, then select “Power off” and wait for your device to turn off. Once it’s off, press and hold the power button again to turn it back on. This could reset the software and fix any glitches that might be causing the touch screen problem.
If the restart didn’t help, you could try a soft reset. This is a bit different from a normal restart. To do a soft reset, press and hold the power button and the volume down button simultaneously for about 10-15 seconds. This should force your device to restart. Hopefully, this will help resolve the touch screen issue.
If none of these methods work, you might want to consider doing a factory reset. Keep in mind that doing a factory reset will erase all the data on your device, so make sure to back up anything important before proceeding. To do a factory reset, go to your device’s settings and look for the “Backup & reset” option. From there, you can select “Factory data reset” and follow the instructions.
If the touch screen is still not working after all of these steps, it’s possible that there’s a hardware problem. In that case, I recommend contacting Samsung support or taking your device to a professional for further assistance.
I hope these tips help you get your Galaxy Note 10.1’s touch screen back in working order. Good luck!
Even if you haven’t physically damaged your device, you might still experience issues with your touch screen. When the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 was first released, it had some software-related touch screen problems, but those were resolved with later updates.
However, that doesn’t mean these issues can’t resurface, especially after your device installs a new operating system update or you download new apps. And even if you’re certain that you never dropped your device, hardware problems cannot be completely ruled out.
In this article, I’ll show you how to fix touch screen issues on both the 2012 and 2014 versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.
Perform a Soft Reset
If your touch screen suddenly stops working, the cause might be a minor issue. To check if that’s the case, the best solution is to perform a soft reset.
A soft reset is simply turning off your device and then turning it back on. But when your touch screen is unresponsive, you can’t restart your tablet as you normally would. This is because you need to tap the Reset option after holding the Lock Screen key, which is not possible.
Instead, just press and hold the Lock/Power button for ten seconds. Ignore any screen that appears and wait for the tablet to turn off. Then, press and hold the Lock/Turn On screen again to power the device. There should be no data loss, unless your battery was extremely low.
If the unresponsive screen was caused by a minor glitch, there’s a good chance that this method will fix it. If not, the problem may be more complex.
Performing a Hard Reset
Ever experienced a system update gone wrong? It can mess up your device, making the touch screen go haywire. And if you recently installed third-party apps, they might be the culprit.
When you do a hard reset, you’re basically starting fresh. All your data will be erased, so make sure to back it up before proceeding.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Hold down the Lock button until your tablet turns off.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Press and hold both the Lock button and the Volume Down button.
- Release the Lock button when you see the logo, but keep holding the Volume Down button.
- You should see a recovery screen. It’s the one with the little Android lying on its back with an exclamation mark above it.
- Use the Volume Up/Down keys to navigate the menu.
- Select ‘wipe data/factory reset’.
- Press the Lock button to confirm.
- Choose ‘Yes – delete all user data’.
- Press the Lock button again.
- Wait for the process to finish.
- Select ‘reboot system now’.
If a software issue caused the problem, a hard reset should fix it. But if the touch screen is still unresponsive, then it’s likely a hardware issue.
Blame It on the Hardware
When your touch screen refuses to cooperate, a broken digitizer might be to blame.
What’s a digitizer, you ask? It’s the glass that covers your tablet’s LCD screen. It’s responsible for translating your hand movements into digital commands that your device understands.
You can break the digitizer externally if you apply too much pressure or if the tablet takes a nasty fall. If it’s internally damaged, it means the connector flex cable that links the digitizer and the glass is either disconnected or broken.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can open up the tablet and check the connector cable yourself. But if you’re not confident, it’s best to let the professionals handle it.
Fixing a Defiant Screen
If your tablet’s screen still displays properly but doesn’t respond to your touch, the issue may not be a major one.
Even if it’s a hardware problem, it could be as simple as a loose or disconnected connector cable, which you can fix in a jiffy. Replacing the entire digitizer might be trickier since you’ll need to find the right model for your tablet.

One Opinion on “Galaxy Note 10.1 – Touch Screen Not Working”
Alfredo Gutierrez says:
Your advice seems solid, but my Sprint Galaxy Tab 10.1 won’t turn off. I’ve held down the power button for 10 seconds, but it just restarts. And even if I manage to find the restart/power down buttons, the touch screen won’t cooperate. Any ideas?
