Podcasts are hotter than ever! From regular folks to famous folks, everyone is either hosting a podcast or appearing as a guest on one.

There are several factors that determine a podcast’s popularity, but one of the most important is the number of downloads. As a podcast owner, you can keep track of how many times each of your episodes has been downloaded by your dedicated fan base.

And here’s the best part: you can do this on almost any platform! If you’re using one of the major podcast directories, I’m here to guide you through the process of accessing your listener analytics and finding out your download numbers.

Apple Podcasts

Once known as iTunes, Apple Podcasts has now become the most popular podcast directory in the world. It’s where you’ll find some of the greatest shows out there.

But here’s the catch: if you’re not the podcast owner, you can’t access the fancy stats for episodes.

  1. So, first things first, open up apple.com.
  2. Now, log in using your credentials (make sure it’s the same Apple ID you used to submit your podcast).
  3. Once you’re in, click on that Podcast Analytics button.
  4. Take your time and explore your episodes to see what the listener data says.

Apple Podcasts analytics is a goldmine when it comes to individual episodes. You’ll get numbers on downloads, listener locations, and even timestamps to see where people may have skipped.

Google Podcasts

Over on the Podcast Portal, Google has all kinds of metrics and reports for your podcast. You’ll get info on subscriptions, download numbers, and plays.

  1. So, head on over to the Google Play Music Podcast Portal.
  2. Sign in using your Google ID.
  3. Pick the podcast you’re interested in.
  4. Next up, go to the Listener Activity Report section.
  5. If you want to see stats for individual episodes, click that small graph icon (it’s the reports icon).

Google also lets you dive into stats by series, days, or use different filters to sort things out.

Spotify

Hey there! Did you know that Spotify has some awesome listener analytics for artists and podcasters like you? Yep, that’s right!

If you want to know how you’re doing and see where you stand in the success ladder, I’ve got you covered. Just follow these simple steps to check out your podcaster dashboard.

  1. First things first, head over to Spotify for Podcasters. It’s the place to be!
  2. Next, log into your account. Gotta make sure it’s really you.
  3. Now, verify that you’re the proud owner of the podcast you want to check out. We wanna keep things secure.
  4. Hang tight! Spotify will send you a special code via email. Use that code when prompted.
  5. Almost there! Confirm any additional information they might need from you.
  6. Okay, hit that submit button and you’re good to go!
  7. To see all the juicy analytics, just click the See Stats button. It can’t get any easier!
  8. Want to dive deeper? Click on individual episodes to check out those download and stream numbers. Mind-blowing stuff, right?

Discover Stitcher

Stitcher, while not as well-known as Google, Apple, or Spotify, is gaining popularity in the podcasting world. Unfortunately, the platform keeps its download statistics and metrics under wraps. The only way to access this information is by logging in as a podcast owner using a unique password.

  1. Access the Provider Portal.
  2. Use your Stitcher Partner login credentials.
  3. Access your podcast metrics.
  4. Filter the data by date or episode.

The metrics table shows valuable information such as active listeners, total listeners, average completion rate, and download numbers, among other statistics.

Unveiling TuneIn

Getting listener analytics for podcasts on TuneIn requires a bit more effort. First, you need to apply for the Amplifier program, which grants access to analytics.

To become part of the program, follow these steps:

  1. Create a TuneIn user account.
  2. Create an embedded player.
  3. Add the player to your podcast’s webpage.
  4. Visit tunein.com.
  5. Apply for the Amplifier program.
  6. Provide your website URL with the embedded player.
  7. Enter the email address used to create the TuneIn account.
  8. Wait for confirmation.

Once accepted into the Amplifier program, you can use your regular TuneIn user account as your login credentials. This will grant you access to listener analytics, including episode download numbers.

Maximizing Listener Analytics

You don’t have to distribute your podcast to every directory to gain visibility. Focusing on one or two popular platforms can reach a large audience. Keep in mind that factors like audio quality, topics, guests, and delivery often contribute more to your success than the platforms you choose.

Regardless of the platform, it’s beneficial to explore listener analytics beyond download numbers. You may discover that most people stream episodes and that some listeners lose interest and start skipping or switching episodes.

One thought on “How to See How Many Downloads per Episode a Podcast Has”

Based on my findings, Spotify currently doesn’t provide download statistics for podcasters. I contacted their support in December 2021, and they informed me that they don’t track this data at the moment. It’s unfortunate. Do you have any suggestions on how to obtain download data from Spotify?
