Did you know that Seesaw has some pretty awesome features that many teachers aren’t aware of? One of the most valuable options is the ability to create a Sample Student. This nifty tool allows you to try out all sorts of creative tools and activities before sharing them with your students.

A Sample Student is particularly handy for teachers who are new to Seesaw and need some practice. I’m here to guide you through everything you need to know about using the Sample Student.

What Exactly is the Sample Student?

The Sample Student is a built-in feature that lets you test out different activities and get comfortable with Seesaw before diving into it with your students. It’s exclusively for teachers to use; kids and parents don’t have access to it.

If you’re unsure about how to post an activity or add a post to your Journal, the Sample Student will come to your rescue. You can use it as a practice platform, allowing you to make mistakes without anyone else seeing. It’s also a great way to test the activities you’ve created and ensure they appear just the way you envisioned them.

How Do I Use It?

I’ll explain the most common ways to use the Sample Student. It’s really simple: before you post any activity, just click on the Sample Student!

When you’re preparing a lesson or task for your students, do everything as you normally would. When you get to the last step and need to publish it, click on Select Students. Instead of choosing an actual student or group, just select the Sample Student.

Then, you’ll be able to see your activity from a student’s perspective, without having to switch to another account. It’s a great way to practice your Seesaw skills and get a different point of view. Understanding your students better is an added bonus!

You might be surprised to find that some of the activities seem more challenging than you expected. With the Sample Student feature, you can customize your lessons and tasks to match how students will see them.

Where Can I Find Sample Student?

If you can’t see the Sample Student, just open your Class List. You’ll find the Sample Student at the top, before the other students. It even has a special picture, a photo of a happy child.

When you want to publish an activity or select students for a specific task, the Sample Student will always be right at the top of the list. You can select it to see how the activity will appear when your students open it.

Remember, the Sample Student is automatically included in every class you create. You don’t need to activate it, just select it from the Class List.

Can I Turn Off the Sample Student?

If you no longer want to see the Sample Student or find it distracting, you can easily turn it off. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Click on the wrench icon at the top right corner.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Students section.
  4. Turn off “Enable Sample Student” by sliding the button.

Of course, you can always turn it back on whenever you want. Just remember that when “Enable Sample Student” is green, it’s on, and when it’s gray, it means you’ve turned it off.

Sample Student – Your Favorite Classmate

We’re confident that the Sample Student feature will become one of your favorite tools on Seesaw. It allows you to explore and understand this platform better. We hope it inspires you to be more creative with your learning activities.
