How To Play Apple Music on Google Home

Google Home has come a long way and is now a very helpful and powerful home assistant. As long as your Home is updated, you can stream music through Bluetooth and play Apple Music on Google Home. Let me show you how.

Big brands don’t usually like working together, but sometimes they have no choice. They may be competitors, but they understand that getting in the way of our enjoyment of a product or service will hurt their sales and popularity. Two companies that don’t always get along are Apple and Google.

If you had a Mac or iPhone and preferred using a Google Home instead of a HomeKit, you had to go through some hoops to make them work together. However, a Google Home update in 2017 added new features: WiFi calling and Bluetooth audio streaming support.

Playing Apple Music on Google Home

The easiest way to play Apple Music on your Google Home is by using the built-in Cast support that your Google Home offers. Apple Music has not supported Chromecast since its launch about four years ago, but with the latest updates in 2019, you can finally use Chromecast with Apple Music. However, as of August 29th, 2019, you’ll need to be using the beta version of Apple Music, which you can join on Android here. Alternatively, you can wait for the official v3.0 of the app to roll out this fall. It’s not clear yet whether iOS users will also get Chromecast support, but if they do, it should arrive with iOS 13 in September.

Using Bluetooth

Google Home works with many music service providers, such as YouTube, Chromecast, Deezer, Spotify, TuneIn, Netflix, Polk, and Raumfeld. However, Apple is not on the list. Luckily, you can still achieve it through the magic of Bluetooth.

To make it work, you’ll need an iPhone or Apple Music subscription and a Google Home. I’ll explain using an iPhone, but you can use any Apple device with Bluetooth.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth on both your iPhone and Google Home.
  2. Open the Google app and select Devices.
  3. Choose Settings and then Paired Bluetooth Devices.
  4. Select Enable Pairing Mode. Your Google Home is now ready to connect to other devices.
  5. Open your iPhone Control Center and turn on Bluetooth.
  6. Wait for the devices to find each other, and then select your Google Home on your iPhone and your iPhone on your Google Home.
  7. Select Pair, and you’re set.

Now you should be able to play music from your iPhone by selecting Bluetooth as the audio output, and it will stream and play through your Google Home. Once paired, the two devices should remember the connection, so you won’t need to set it up again.

Next time, just turn on Bluetooth on both devices, play your music, and you’re good to go.

Other Methods to Play Apple Music on Google Home

There are many websites out there explaining how to download music from Apple Music, remove its DRM, and upload it to Google Drive or Google Play Music. However, I suggest avoiding this approach.

For one, it goes against Apple’s terms and conditions to remove the DRM and download the music. The DRM is in place to ensure the availability of the music. Additionally, depending on where you live, removing DRM can be illegal.

Possible Apple Music Support for Google Home?

Rumors suggest that Apple Music may soon be supported on Google Home devices. recently reported that a user spotted an Apple Music entry in a pre-release Google Home app. If this is true, it could mean that the two competing platforms are working together to make users’ lives easier.

This is good news because Google Home owners felt left out when they heard that Apple Music was coming to the Amazon Echo. It seems like these companies are starting to cooperate more.

For now, you can play Apple Music on Google Home using Bluetooth streaming. We’ll have to wait and see if Apple Music will be available on Google Home. Whether it happens or not is still uncertain, but at least we have a way to get what we want.
