How To Delete your Life360 History

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, life has become more convenient and secure than ever before. Smartphones have revolutionized the way we live by combining numerous devices into one, saving us time and money (although some may argue about the money-saving aspect). One significant feature that has proven to be exceptionally beneficial is the GPS function, which comes in handy when we find ourselves lost or in need of directions.

An innovative social network called Life360 takes this concept even further by focusing on families. It allows your loved ones to keep tabs on your whereabouts. This can be highly practical in situations where you need someone to run an errand for you while you’re at the store, or even more importantly, when you find yourself in a potential danger.

The Downside of Using Life360

Let me tell you, there’s a big catch when it comes to sharing your information using Life360. This app lets other people in your group, or Circle, know your location as long as you have location sharing turned on.

But here’s the problem: Life360 doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, parents can become overprotective and keep such a close eye on their child that it feels suffocating, whether it’s necessary or not. And to make matters worse, the developers won’t let you delete any part of your history.

Fortunately, if you have the free version of the app, your location and driving histories disappear after three days. But what if three days isn’t enough? What if your parents paid for the full version of the app on your phone?

Don’t worry, there’s still a way to get around it, but only to a certain extent.

However, before you start trying to bypass the app’s features, it’s important to have a conversation with the other Circle members about how you’re using Life360. This app can make things worse if it’s misused. On the other hand, your parents might have good intentions, because you never know when you might need it, unless they’re excessively paranoid.

Turning Off Location Sharing

According to the official Life360 website, you can disable Location Sharing, but it will only affect specific Circles. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Tap on ‘Settings’ in the lower right corner
  2. In the Circle Switcher, choose the Circle you no longer want to share your location with
  3. Tap on ‘Location Sharing’
  4. Turn it off

The process is pretty similar on all devices: iPhone, Android, and PC.

Just keep in mind that your Circle members will be able to see that you’ve paused your location sharing.

Tricking the App

If you’re absolutely sure you don’t need the app, talk to your Circle about deleting it. That’s the easiest solution. If that’s not an option, you can try the following. (You’re welcome. We’ve done the research so you don’t have to.)

  1. Turn off your WiFi and mobile data. If that doesn’t work, try turning GPS off. Life360 will show your last location, but it will also show that you are not online, so keep that in mind. It’s highly recommended to also turn off Background App Refresh and turn on Low Power Mode just to be sure the refresh is turned off.
  2. Try using apps that fake your location. Both Android and iOS have at least one app called “Fake GPS Location”. Note that it might not work on your device.
  3. Change your device. Install Life360 on your tablet, for example, and delete it from your smartphone. If you’re using an iPhone and want to move the app to your iPad, be careful, as people may find out that your Life360 is on your iPad instead of your iPhone. Life360 supposedly also shows your battery level.
  4. Try deleting the app. This is a risky move because it might become obvious that you’re not checking in or sharing your location.
  5. Buy a backup phone. The riskiest, most expensive, and possibly most effective option is to buy a new cellphone relatively cheaply if you really need to fake your location. To take it a step further, don’t let anyone know about your new phone and just have calls to your old phone forwarded.

Word of Advice

It’s important for every Life360 user to realize that it has both advantages and disadvantages. Unfortunately, most users only think about one side. Worried parents always mention the positives, while some young people are aware of just the negatives.

My advice would be to try to understand the other person’s point of view and have a conversation. Lastly, remember that Life360 can be a lifesaver in critical situations and be really helpful when it matters the most.
